| NEXT week, Mr Patrick Fiat, general manager of the Royal Plaza on Scotts will be speaking personally to 30 of his employees.
It will not be about work, it will be about sharing. He is hoping to get these 30 employees on the Community Chest's Share programme, in which individuals donate part of their monthly income to charity, through Giro, credit card or a direct debit from their monthly salary. The rest of his employees - about 370 - are already on the scheme. More than 200,000 people in Singapore are on the Share programme, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The money from the Share programme goes to the Community Chest to fund 155 social service programmes this year that will help children, the elderly, families and the disabled. The National Council of Social Service (NCSS), of which Comchest is the fund-raising arm, has noticed a small drop in donors over the years. There has also been a drop in Share income by about 1.6 per cent - about $208,000 - from last year. It hopes to bump up the number of individual donors this year by about 30,000. It also hopes to increase the number of companies on the Corporate Share programme, where companies match their employees' donations dollar for dollar. The Royal Plaza on Scotts is one of them.
