3 video voyeurs jailed

| By Esther Tan | |
| THREE men were given jail terms on Friday for insulting the modesty of three women in separate cases.
Two of them - Kang Joo Huat, 48, and Tang Fook Seng, 33 - got four weeks each for sticking video recording devices under the skirts of women in shopping malls. The third man, Del Rosario Tanny Fernandez, 33, was jailed three weeks for trying to take a photo of his housemate, aged 24, in the toilet. The court heard on Friday that Kang, a machinist, and Tang, a final-year student of the Singapore Institute of Management, both crept close to their victims in mall shops and held their recording devices under their victims' skirts. Tang's act in December 2007 was spied by another shopper, who grabbed him and alerted the 21-year-old woman. Kang was caught by his victim's boyfriend, who caught him outside the shop carrying a video camera wrapped in paper. This was in January 2008. Fernandez, a Filipino software engineer, gave away his game when his housemate spotted the camera's red laser beam and confronted him. Fernandez, who had not taken any pictures then, came clean with the police. Pleading for leniency, he blubbered that he had to support his family. Kang, who has three children still in school, and Tang also asked for lighter sentences and apologised for their actions. Read the full report in Friday's edition of The Straits Times. | |
