THE defence wrapped up its case on Tuesday after 41/2 days trial of a businessman who involved two others in a kidney-for-sale deal. Whang Sung Lin, 45, is alleged to have intentionally helped Wang Chin Sing, 44, and former executive chairman of retail giant CK Tang, Mr Tang Wee Sung, 56, to enter into an arrangement for a kidney to be supplied to Mr Tang last year. Mr Tang and Wang, together with two other Indonesians, have been dealt with for their roles in the transaction. Whang is said to have introduced the two men in return for a fee. He denied receiving any money from the transplant incident or telling Wang to charge Mr Tang $300,000 for a kidney. The prosecution's case is that he and Wang agreed to split the profits from the deal with each getting approximately $100,000. Mr Tang paid a total of $125,000 to Wang, who issued two cheques of $10,000 each to Whang on May 30 and June 10 last year. But Whang said these were loans and had nothing to do with Mr Tang's case. District Judge Sarjit Singh will deliver his judgment on June 16. | |
