ST ANDREW'S Junior College (SAJC) has installed solar panels which generate enough electricity to power two classrooms everyday. Placed on the the roof of the school's cultural centre, the panels were unveiled on Thursday by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources Amy Khor. Paid through a $30,000 sponsorship by Finish mobile phone company Nokia, the panels are also used to teach scientific principles in Physics lessons. Students will also be tracking which of the solar panels is able to produce more energy. They will write a report at the end of their study. Dr Khor said Nokia and SAJC's solar energy project brings Singapore a step forward in realising its goal of developing clean energy solutions. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the school and Nokia on Thursday. Nokia will plant a tree in Indonesia and donate US$2 to fund environmental causes for every old mobile phone that the school collects. | |
