Liverpool stars set for S'pore
By Lin Xinyi
LIVERPOOL fans, mark this date: July 26. That is when Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Co. will play at the National Stadium.

Singapore-based promoter Strategic Sports Investment, a subsidiary of the Profitable Group, confirmed on Thursday that the Reds will take on the Singapore national team in a friendly that day.

The match is part of the club's two-game tour. Liverpool will face the Thai national team in Bangkok on July 22.

Former Liverpool midfielder and commercial director of Profitable Group Steve McMahon promised a full-strength Reds outfit - barring any injuries.

'This is a major pre-season tour. The players will be preparing for the upcoming season. So, yes, it will be a full squad,' he told The Straits Times.

Although ticketing details will only be announced next month, McMahon assured fans that 'it will be a fair price'.

The trip will mark the third Singapore visit by England's most successful football team. The 18-time English champions' first appearance here was in 1991.

Ten years later, fans forked out as much as $90 for a ticket to watch them and Manchester United take on a Singapore Selection - the last time big-name English Premier League teams visited Singapore.

Following an eight-year absence, fans will see a much changed Reds squad.

Only Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia and Gerrard were part of the 2001 squad, though Gerrard pulled out of that trip because of an ankle injury.
