| A WOMAN was charged in court on Thursday with helping an Australian-registered doctor to practise medicine here without a licence.
In the same court, Bioscor International (Singapore), was also charged with seven summons charges of having medicinal products at its Ngee Ann City Tower B premises last Sept 22. The company was represented by Ong Yoke Chooi, 48, a director. Ong herself is accused of abetting an 'unauthorised person'', Ong Hean Chye alias Alan Ong, by referring a woman to Alan Ong for injecting filler into her nose and botox into her cheek regions at Bioscor International, Orchard Road, on April 23, 2007. Alan Ong, 61, a registered doctor in Australia and Hongkong but not in Singapore, founded Bioscor International which has around 20 cosmetic treatment offices in several countries. In 2000, he was fined $20,000 for practising in Singapore without a licence and importing medicine without a permit. If convicted, Ong Yoke Chooi faces a fine of up to $100,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months or both. Under the Medicines Act, the company can be fined up to $5,000 on each charge. The case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on May 15. | |
