Upgraded market to re-open
| THE market and hawker centre at Block 17, Upper Boon Keng will officially re-open on April 5 after a major facelift.
The 4790.88 sq m single-storey centr underwent a $4.2 million overhaul under the National Environment Agency's (NEA) Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme (HUP). Besides more seats, the refurbished centre also boasts an outdoor refreshment area for alfresco dining. Patrons can also look forward to wider passageways and improved toilet facilities. Hawkers will benefit from a new mechanical exhaust system that will improve the centre's ventilation, and improved security at the lock-up and cooked food stalls. Over 130 stalls are currently operating at the centre. Dr Lee Boon Yang, MP for Jalan Besar GRC, will attend the re-opening of the centre. Other guests-of-honour include the GRC's other MPs - Dr Lily Neo, Mr Heng Chee How and Ms Denise Phua. | |
