Sports, music and shopping
By Melissa Sim
THE top leisure activities among young Singaporeans aged eight to 24 are playing sports, listening to music and shopping, according to a survey of 940 youths here.

The survey, conducted by market research company Synovate, also found that among Internet activities, youths in Singapore preferred blogging and social networking to forum discussions, reading and posting reviews.

In terms of power over product or service choices, Singaporean youths had more say than others in the region in terms of what mobile phone they used and what trips the family went on.

In all, Singapore youths managed to cram 42 hours of activities into their 24-hour day, compared to the regional average of 38 hours.

Could this be why they are not as happy as those in developing markets?

Only 73 per cent of those surveyed said they were very or quite happy. This is below the regional average of 77 per cent.

A total of 13,256 youths from 12 countries were polled in the survey, which was conducted at the end of last year.
