F1 tickets to cost more

| TICKET prices for this year's Formula One SingTel Singapore Grand Prix have increased, but fans can get them at a bargain in early-bird tickets.
They will pay from 7 per cent to 26 per cent less for tickets in six categories including the Pit, Turn 1 and Turn 2 grandstands if they buy tickets early. Tickets for all grandstands, except the Bay grandstand, will go on sale on April 9. This will be followed by a second launch on April 20, when Bay grandstand and three-day walkabout tickets will be released. Both releases will start with an early-bird phase, which consists of up to half the available tickets for grandstand and walkabout passes. Once each area's early-bird allotment is sold out, the remaining tickets will be priced at regular rates. While regular prices remained unchanged in five categories compared to last year, motor-racing aficionados will have to fork out between 7 per cent and 29 per cent more in eight categories. A total of 72,000 tickets will be available for what is still the only night race on the 17-race calendar. But further grandstand tickets could be released for sale in a later phase, depending on demand. Mr Teo Hock Seng, chairman of race promoter Singapore GP, said that the various pricing points allow the race to be as accessible as possible. This year, tickets can also be bought through Sistic. Sistic was recently brought on board to prevent a repeat of last year, when high demand caused the ticketing system to crash on the first two days of sales. Customers of title sponsor SingTel can buy a limited number of single-day walkabout tickets at early-bird prices at a roadshow in Wisma Atria from April 10-April 19, ahead of the public. | |
