Fewer new charities approved

| THE Commissioner of Charities has used his new powers to ensure that only groups which meet more stringent standards can call themselves charities.
Last year, he rejected 52 groups and allowed only 57 to be registered as charities - the lowest number since 2003, when 105 got the go-ahead. The rejection rate is unprecedented. The commissioner, Mr Low Puk Yeong, declined to name or give details of the 52 groups that did not make the cut last year. Read the full report in Saturday's edition of The Straits Times. | |
