| AFRAID to clean up the bloodstains at the scene where the body of a woman was found, construction worker Md Avir Ramijuddinmiah asked for help.
Kamrul Hasan Abdul Quddus agreed to do it but only if someone was with him while he did the cleaning. Mr Md Avir then got another colleague to accompany Kamrul and the job was done. The dead woman turned out to be Kamrul's girlfriend Yulia Afriyanti and now the 35-year-old Bangladeshi is on trial for killing her on Dec 16, 2007. The naked body of the 25-year-old Indonesian maid was found stuffed in a cardboard box the same day in a unit in the Viz@Holland condominium which was under construction at that time. Testifying in the High Court on Thursday morning, Mr Md Avir said that he was about to clean some apartments when he found discovered a large cardboard carton in the storeroom of a third-floor unit. It was too heavy to be moved so he opened it. Shocked to find a human body in the box, he ran out of the unit and phoned his supervisor. Police were then called in. Two days later, his supervisor told him to clean the storeroom where the body had been found. But Mr Md Avir was scared to do it and sought Kamrul's help. Police investigations later revealed that Kamrul had sex with Ms Yulia before her death, but he claimed that they had made love the evening before in a park near her employer's residence in Grange Road. He then went back to his dormitory in Kaki Bukit. There he said he received phone calls from Ms Yulia saying that her Filipino friend Joseph was forcing her to go to a hotel. She told him that she was at his worksite but by the time he arrived, he found her dead in the carton. Last week, the High Court also heard that Ms Yulai was also intimate with Mr Joseph Guerzon Corpuz, 25, a Filipino, who is also a construction worker. The trial continues. | |
