Dad acused of ill-treating girl

| AN UNEMPLOYED man has been charged with vandalism by burning his two children's passports and ill-treating his daughter.
The 36-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the victim, allegedly burnt the Singapore International Passports of his toddler son and four-year-old daughter at his home on Dec 14 last year. He was also charged on Wednesday with dripping candle wax on the thighs and private parts of his then 2 1/2-year-old daughter, and clipping her nipples with clothes pegs in late 2006 or earlyt 2007. The accused, who is represented by Mr K.R. Manicka, is out on $20,000 bail. His case was adjourned. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $2,000 or a jail term of up to three years and at least three strokes of the cane on each charge of vandalism. The other offence is punishable with a fine of not more than $4,000 or a jail term of up to four years or both. | |
