Students get scholarships

| YUSOF Ishak Secondary School students Chua Yun Chong and Melvil Seah have done well enough to progress from the Normal (Technical) stream to the Express stream this year.
The 15-year-olds were one of the 38 students from the school to receive scholarships introduced by their school and Bukit Batok East grassroots organisations on Wednesday. All of them had been promoted from the Normal Technical stream to the Normal (Academic) stream or Express stream. This is the first time that Bukit Batok East grassroots organisations have teamed up with a school to introduce scholarships. Named the First President School Scholarship Award, each scholarship is worth $250 each. They were sponsored by a $9500 donation from Bukit Batok East Citzen's Consultative Committee patron Mr Richard Ong Chui Chat. Vice-principal Ang Hwee Loo said the scholarships were especially meaningful because the students worked hard to qualify for the Normal Academic or Express streams. Madam Ang added:'I hope that seeing the success of their schoolmates, other normal technical stream students will be inspired to work hard too.' | |
