Charity helps another
By Theresa Tan
TO ENCOURAGE Singaporeans to give despite the tough times, a charity, the Handicaps Welfare Association (HWA), went to help out at another charity on Tuesday.

Some 24 HWA staff were at the Spastic Children's Association of Singapore on Tuesday afternoon to play and make art with the disabled children there.

HWA, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is also feeling the chill from the recession.

Its annual fund-raiser has raised only about half of its $350,000 target so far. The charity has to raise $2 million to fund its operations this year.

It also plans to launch a rehabilitation centre in Jurong Point Shopping Centre in April so that its members living in the West don't have to travel to HWA's Whampoa head-quarters for their rehabilitation.
