S'pore battling for tourists

| AT BEST, Singapore can expect to attract 9.8 million visitors this year. The worst-case scenario: numbers falling to a five-year low of 8.8 million.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), which shared some of its early projections during a closed-door meeting with retailers yesterday, is due to announce total visitor arrivals for last year soon. Singapore did not meet its target of 10.8 million visitors. To boost the flagging industry, the STB has set up a task force to study and propose ways to not just attract more visitors, but also encourage Singapore residents to spend more at home.
