Study on rare blood disorder

| FIFTY patients with a rare blood disorder will be part of a study to see if a potential drug to treat their disease will work on human cells.
Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) has teamed up with S*Bio to test the local biotech company's second cancer drug - codenamed SB1518 - over the next six months. Scientists will take and analyse in a laboratory diseased blood cells from the 50 patients. They will test how the drug works with a group of diseases collectively known as myeloproliferative neoplasm, or MPN, where blood cell production goes into overdrive. There is no known cure for these ailments, which can lead to bleeding in the stomach, heart attacks and cancer. Read the full story in Monday's edition of The Straits Times. | |
