Chinese FM meets MM Lee

HONG KONG - CHINESE Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew here on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Asia Meeting to exchange views of China-Singapore bilateral relations, Xinhua news reported.

During his talks with Mr Lee, Mr Yang said China and Singapore had maintained close contact and the bilateral relations had developed rapidly in recent years with satisfying results, such as the operation of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park and the good beginning of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City.

Mr Yang said China is willing to work together with Singapore to promote the relations between the two countries to a new height.

Echoing Mr Yang's views, MM Lee said he hopes Singapore and China will continue developing their bilateral relations.

After exchanging views on the ongoing international financial crisis, regional cooperation in East Asia and other issues of common concern, both sides agreed that under the current situation, China and Singapore should further enhance coordinated cooperation, work together to maintain financial stability in the region and promote economic growth.
