SINGAPOREANS do not like watching TV on their mobile phones when they are walking or when they are out in the open. Instead, they would rather use their phones to watch their news, sports, or cartoons at the coffeeshop, on the bus, or even at home. This was one of the findings from Singapore Digital's TV2Go mobile television trial, which 120 people have been testing since the middle of last year. Singapore Digital, a tie-up between Singapore's PGK Media and Broadcast Australia, also found that most people tune in about 20 minutes or so each time, said its chief executive officer Giulio Dorrucci, instead of for one to two minutes as he had thought. Another finding: 'The unique layout of HDB apartment blocks poses special challenges for reception on mobile devices,' said Mr Dorrucci. The company will complete the trial by Sunday, and is waiting for the authorities to announce plans for mobile TV licencing. The Media Development Authority, which regulates broadcasting here, had said earlier that it would give up to four licences next year to operate such services. Already, about 11 million people in Japan and one million people in Italy watch television on their cellphones on a regular basis. | |
