M'sian jailed for false report
By Sujin Thomas

A 27-YEAR-OLD Malaysian man was sentenced to two weeks' jail on Wednesday for making a false police report.

The court heard that Eng Jit Hwang, who works as a freight handling worker, had lodged a report at Chai Chee Neighbourhood Police Post on Sept 7. In it, he claimed that he had been robbed of $2,000 at knifepoint by two men.

However, he later confessed to fabricating the story when questioned by police.

He had actually borrowed money from an illegal moneylender and was unable to meet the repayments, court papers said.

He made the police report to show to the moneylender that he had no money to make payments.

Eng told the court that he had resorted to borrowing money from an illegal moneylender to pay for his stepfather's medical bills.
