TWO women were robbed on Monday. In the first case, a woman in her late 70s was robbed in a lift at 106 Towner Road. She was punched in the cheek by a man who made off with her $30 gold necklace and a wallet containing $40 and some personal documents. He fled when the lift door opened on the fourth floor. In the second case, a woman in her early 20s lost $300 in cash and valuables to a snatch thief. She was walking along Serangoon Avenue 1, near Block 427, when a man snatched her handbag from behind. She lost a $240 cellphone, $60 and some personal documents. The suspect was joined by another man while he was fleeing. Both men are described to be dark-complexioned and in their late teens or early 20s. The suspect is said to be about 1.76m tall, thin and was wearing a dark-coloured shirt and pants. In yet another theft case, a 49-year-old man who stole from a hawker centre stall at Block 335, Smith Street was nabbed with the help of passers-by on Monday afternoon. The 48-year-old stall owner returned from delivering orders to find a man stepping out of her unattended stall with her containers of cash takings. Her cries for help caught the attention of several passers-by, including 67-year-old Mr Leong Fatt Chye, who gave chase. They managed to catch the man in the hawker centre and handed him over to police. The money containers and $9.40 were recovered. The man is believed to be involved in a separate case of theft last Saturday involving another stall at the same hawker centre. | |
