Bigger libraries at malls
By Jamie Ee

BOOKMARK the opportunity to visit two new libraries this year-end holidays.

Located in Yishun and Choa Chu Kang, the two libraries - relocated from other sites - can seat more people and boast bigger book collections.

No wonder then, that at least 6,000 people visited the Yishun Public Library on Friday when it reopened.

The one in Choa Chu Kang will reopen this Friday.

The Yishun library, which was previously in Yishun Street 22, now sits on the fourth level of the extension of Northpoint Shopping Centre. It is just minutes away from the Yishun MRT station and bus interchange.

Residents said they have been looking forward to the reopening after the library closed for a month to prepare for the move.

'This new location is more central. We've been waiting for years for the relocation,' said Ms Susan Low, 57, a relief teacher.

Sporting a contemporary look, the new venue is twice the size of the old one. It can seat about 220 people, compared to 60 before.

One key feature is the children's section, which is marked by its quirky cheese structures and joint seats - with each at a different height - to allow a parent and child to read comfortably together.
