Lawyer seeks reduced charge
By Sujin Thomas
THE China-born wife of opposition politican Tan Lead Shake, is hoping to have the murder charge against her reduced, said her lawyer Subhas Anandan on Monday.

Mr Anandan did not want to elaborate on how he intended to do this.

Accused on murder charges have been known to escape the gallows if psychiatrict reports can show that they suffered from mental disorders which diminish their responsibility for the killing.

A pre-trial conference date has been set for Nov 11 at the High Court to discuss the matter, a district court heard.

Wu Yun Yun, 26, a permanent resident, is alleged to have fatally stabbed her brother-in-law Tan Lead Sane, 34, on June 28.

His wife, Madam Huang Mei Zhi, 34, and Wu's mother-in-law Madam Ng Bee Hion, 63, were also injured in the attack which took place in the Paya Lebar house the two couples shared.

Wu has been in remand in Changi Women's Prison since her arrest seven hours after the alleged stabbing.

She was seen eagerly scanning the courtroom on Monday, hoping to spot relatives in the public gallery.

Tan Lead Shake, who was given the moniker the 'Slipper Man' after she showed up on Nomination Day at the 1997 elections wearing slippers, was not in court.
