| TWO men who were part of a group that attacked another with knives and metal pipes had their sentences increased by the High Court on Friday.
The attack by Wan Farid Wan Idris, 26, and Adnan Mohamed Zakaria, 29, together with at least three others, left the victim, Mr Iskandar Jamaludin, with an amputated right thumb, multiple deep cuts and broken fingers on Jan 24 last year. Mr Iskandar, who was warded for eight days and given 62 days' medical leave, cannot write with his right hand and carry things. His neck still aches and he is unable to straighten his right arm, the court heard. The duo had been convicted earlier this year after a trial of grievously hurting the 28-year-old operations supervisor near the carpark of Sultan Plaza at Jalan Sultan, at about 3.15am that day. Farid, who is serving 25 months and three strokes of the cane, will now go in for another 10 months and will receive six strokes of the cane. Adnan's sentence of 23 months and three strokes was upped to 33 months and six strokes. Outlining the brief facts, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kan Shuk Weng said the victim had left Harmony Yumeco KTV at Sultan Plaza with his friends when they saw a large group of men next the exit of the building. As they were leaving, Farid asked Mr Iskandar if he was 'Mamat''. When told by one of the victim's friends that he was not 'Mamat'', Farid then asked which gang they were from. When the victim said he was not from any, Adnan confronted the victim and asked him another question before punching him, causing him to fall. The rest of the group then set upon the victim. Farid was seen kicking the victim and using a chopper while Adnan was seen making slashing motions at the victim's neck with a shiny weapon. Allowing the prosecution's appeal, Justice Lee Seiu Kin said he was satisfied that the sentences imposed were well below those in comparable cases. | |
