I write letters to dead mum

| Yishun triple-murder survivor writes letters and a blog to cope. | |
| THE sole survivor of the Yishun triple murders has been coping with her mother's death by writing.
In an exclusive interview with The New Paper on Saturday, the 15-year-old revealed that she has started a blog to keep herself going. She also writes letters to her mother, telling her about life since the Sept 19 tragedy. 'I hope to burn these letters for her when I visit her resting place in China next time,' she said. The teenager's mother, Madam Yang Jie, 36, was found dead at the foot of a block in Yishun Avenue 11. Their flatmates, another study mama and daughter from China, were found dead in a bedroom, while she was found with multiple stab wounds in the kitchen toilet. The Secondary 1 student, who cannot be named under the law as she is a minor, tries her 'best to adapt'. She told TNP: 'Whenever I miss my mum, I would imagine that she is working in a faraway land, just like when I was young and she was in another city working.' 'I tell myself that's the reason why she's not with me now. This is the only way to forget my pain.' Friends and family have also been a source of support for the China-born girl. According to TNP, classmates have been dropping by to cheer her up, and taking her to church. Her school principal and teachers also make regular visits. She has been messaging her father in China daily too. 'I'm happy to know that my friends are very encouraging and they have not distanced themselves from me. They never fail to brighten my day.' The girl, who has lost about 15 kg in the past month, also said she is 'not afraid to go out although I may look hideous to some'. She was warded at Tan Tock Seng Hospital for about three weeks, during which her injured right eyeball was removed. Her long hair also had to be cut because of head injuries. While the girl appears to be strong, things are not what they seem. Those close to her have noticed that she is less chatty and would drift into deep thought when alone. Her counsellor has told her maternal grandmother, Madam Zhang Wei, that 'she is not as strong as she has portrayed herself to be. She is still very badly affected and vulnerable at heart.' Madam Zhang, 63, also said her granddaughter could fall asleep only if she is beside her, holding her hand. She added: 'The counsellor said she is putting on a brave front so that her family will not worry for her.' Chinese national Wang Zhijian,42, who was the victims' flatmate, has been charged with murdering the dead mother-daughter pair and also faces a third charge of attempting to kill the 15-year-old survivor. | |
