PRELIMINARY findings of a government survey on baby-boomers found that many of them want to work for as long as they can.

The Ministry of Community evelopment, Youth and Sports (MCYS) survey of 2,700 ingaporeans aged between 43 and 60 found that of hose who are employed or looking for work, almost half of them expect to or want to work for as long as they can.

Yet not all who want to work after their retirement do so because they need the money. The desire to stay active and connected are key reasons why they want to work beyond the retirement age.

These people also hoped to find flexible work arrangements and shorter working hours.

Among those who want to retire, about three in 10 expect to do so at 65 or older - beyond the current retirement age of 62.

Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, on Friday also urged Singaporeans to work for as long as they can.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, speaking at a lunch event, said: 'Singaporeans are also learning from the current financial and economics problems - that savings can be wiped out by investment that go awry. It is therefore prudent to work for as long as we can.'
