Outdoor activity cuts myopia
By April Chong
FOR every extra hour a child spent outdoors, the risk of myopia goes down by 10 per cent, eye experts have found.

And this has taken into account the time spent on near work such as reading and looking at computer screens.

Another study showed that people with glaucoma, which results in vision loss, are four times more susceptible to suffering a fall compared to those with no vision impairment.

These were the findings shared at the Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases (SEED) Symposium held at the Singapore National Eye Centre on Monday.

The studies shed light on how children can reduce their short-sightedness and how those with eye diseases should seek treatment to improve their quality of life.
