Aussie newsman hopeful
By Sujin Thomas
AUSTRALIAN journalist Peter Gerard Lloyd, 41, was a figure of confidence, smiling and waving at reporters outside the Subordinate Courts on Thursday morning after his court appearance on drugs charges.

The well-known Australian Broadcasting Corporation's South Asia correspondent was charged in July with trafficking and possession of the drug methamphetamine, or 'Ice'.

His lawyer, Mr Tan Jee Ming said he is hopeful of a resolution in the coming weeks although 'nothing is firm now.'

Lloyd allegedly sold 0.15g of Ice to Singaporean Sani Saidi, 31, at the York Hotel on July 9 for $100.

A packet of the same drug weighing 0.41g was also allegedly found on him when he was arrested on July 16.

His next court date will be on Oct 30.

Lloyd is out on S$60,000 bail.

The newsman has been the face of ABC's coverage from India and Pakistan, appearing regularly on the network's nationally broadcast daily news.

He was in Singapore on leave when he was arrested by narcotics officers.
