Bus lane offences up since June
By Ang Yiying
BUS lane infringements have rebounded since June, despite measures to keep them in check.

There were 3,148 in July and 2,349 in August, going by Land Transport Authority (LTA) figures, which exclude offences captured on cameras on board buses.

Both figures are higher than the 1,619 offences in June, when the number plunged 40 per cent from May's count of 2,677 infringements.

Back then, some bus drivers linked the dip to the implementation of the cameras mounted on buses, but if there was a deterrent effect, it looks like it has worn off.

LTA released the July and August figures to The Straits Times just as new bus lanes took effect at four locations on Monday: Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, Lentor Avenue, Upper Thomson Road and Boundary Road.

Other vehicles are barred from using these lanes during the weekday peak hours of 7.30am to 9.30am and from 5pm to 8pm.
