2 milk products tainted

SINGAPORE stocks of two made-in-China milk products have been found to be tainted with the potentially deadly chemical melamine. As a result, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) has suspended the import and sale of all milk and milk products from China with immediate effect. Samples of Dutch Lady strawberry flavoured milk and Yili Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection were found to contain melamine, the AVA said on Friday night. All stocks of the products have been recalled and will be destroyed, it added. Those who bought the product have been urged not to consume them. On Friday, retailers also scrambled to pull several China-made products from their shelves and recall some others. Besides Dutch Lady strawberry milk, packets of popular brand Monmilk and Yili milk were removed. FairPrice, the largest supermarket chain in Singapore, said yesterday that it is recalling over 10 brands, including Yili Pure Milk, Yili Hi-Calcium Low-Fat Milk and Monmilk Hi-Calcium Milk. The Cold Storage and Giant supermarket chains pulled products such as Want Want flavoured milk and candy, the well-known Rabbit brand milk sweets, Youcan strawberry milk , and Monmilk walnut breakfast milk.
