SINGAPOREANS hoping to lose a few extra pounds can now turn to a new website developed by Changi General Hospital that counts the calories in local dishes. The site, www.myhealth.sg, contains nutritional information on fare like nasi lemak, ang ku kueh and bak ku teh, along with a programme that will help users plan a balanced diet. People can also gauge their fitness levels against local benchmarks like the Individual Physical Proficiency Test and the National Physical Fitness Award test. They can also obtain recommendations on how to improve their fitness. The site is being billed as the first of its kind in Singapore. While many weight management programmes are available online, they are designed for Caucasians, said the hospital's chief executive officer Mr T K Udairam. The online weight management programme is based a plan offered by the hospital since 2003. Users can also obtain an evaluation of their health risks and mental well being and refer to articles and video clips about healthy living. | |
