Fishing boat salvaged
By Teh Joo Lin
A WOODEN fishing boat that was hit by a 380-tonne Japanese vessel a week ago was fished out of the waters on Sunday afternoon by a local salvage company.

A part of the Indonesian Atria 1 had sunk to the seabed 10m below and another part of the boat split into two after the reversing 379-tonne Tomiei Maru 78 collided with it at the Jurong Fishery Port last Monday.

It took 14 salvage workers from salvage company, Singapore Salvage Engineers, over seven hours to lift the 34-tonne boat out of the water.

The accident left one of Atria 1's crew members with minor cuts and bruises. No one else was hurt.
