| THE largest cluster of chikungunya cases in Singapore continues to grow.
Two more people have come down with the dengue-like disease at Kranji Way, bringing the total count to 30, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday. They are a 48-year-old Indian national who works and lives at Kranji Way, and a 34-year-old Chinese national who has gone there several times. Another three men have also been hit by the mosquito-borne disease at separate locations. One is a 31-year-old Bangladeshi working at Sungei Kadut Street 6 and living at Sungei Kadut Street 1, the same street where a 40-year-old Chinese national came down with chikungunya more than a week ago. The Sungei Kadut area is about a 15-minute walk from Kranji Way. The second is a 42-year-old contractor living in Yishun Avenue 5, who fell ill on July 26 but has recovered after seeing a doctor. He is Yishun's second chikungunya patient. About a week before that, a 25-year-old technician from China, who lives in Miltonia Close, off Yishun Avenue 1, was infected. The latest man to join the list of patients is an accounts assistant who lives in Hougang Street 22. He fell ill last Tuesday, was hospitalised two days later and has since recovered. Health officers have screened the Bangladeshi's 124 co-workers, the contractor's three household members, and three people living with the accounts assistant. All of them were clear of the virus. | |
