H1N1 FLU PANDEMIC
Thailand's death toll 11

BANGKOK - THAILAND has reported two more H1N1 flu-related deaths, bringing the country's total to 11, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nop-amornbodi said the latest victims were a 21-year-old woman at a Bangkok hospital who died on July 3 and a 19-year-old university student on the southern resort island of Phuket who died on Tuesday. The test results were confirmed on Wednesday.

He said that the woman had thyroid deficiency prior to contracting the virus, further complicating treatment.

The ministry also reported 290 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the country's total to 2,718.

According to figures on Monday from the UN World Health Organization, there have been 94,512 H1N1 flu cases worldwide and 429 deaths. The WHO report said 10 of those deaths have been in Australia, three in New Zealand and one in the Philippines. -- AP
