Filipinos to protest HK slur
Protest planned against columnist's 'nation of servants' insult

MANILA: A satirical article in a Hong Kong magazine calling the Philippines a 'nation of servants' has drawn a furious response from Filipinos here and abroad.

Hong Kong's Filipino community plans a demonstration on Sunday to protest against the article by columnist Chip Tsao.

In the Philippines this week, he was placed on the immigration department's blacklist and barred from entering the country until he apologises.

Mr Tsao, in his March 27 column in HK Magazine, wrote that the Philippines' claim on the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea was ludicrous compared with Beijing's rival claim.

'As a nation of servants, you don't flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter,' he wrote.
