Concern for S'poreans in BK
THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday said it was monitoring the Thai situation closely.

In response to media queries about explosions at the Government House and Don Muang airport in Bangkok, the MFA spokesman said:

'We are concerned about the recent developments in Thailand and are monitoring the situation closely...The well-being of Singaporeans is our primary concern.'

It added: 'We hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible so that the safety of stranded foreigners can be assured.'

MFA has been coordinating closely with Singapore carriers to mount additional flights to move stranded Singaporeans out of Bangkok.

Over 400 Singaporeans are known to have left Thailand by two Singapore Airlines and two JetStar flights out of U-Tapao Airport on Saturday. These additional flights will continue over the next few days, MFA said. They are in addition to extra flights which have been mounted by Singapore carriers to Phuket and Chiang Mai.

The Singapore Embassy is also assisting about 100 Singaporeans to get confirmed seats out of Bangkok.

MFA reiterated its advice for Singaporeans to postpone non-essential travel to Bangkok.

Singaporeans intending to travel to Thailand should closely monitor news developments there. Should they decide to travel, they are advised to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at www.mfa.gov.sg.

Should Singaporeans require assistance, they can contact the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok or the MFA Duty Officer (24-hours) at:
