Stock market down over 5%

LONDON - THE London stock market slumped more than five per cent in late trade on Wednesday, undermined by weakness in the banking sector and after more sharp losses on Wall Street, analysts said.

At about 1515 GMT (11.15pm Singapore time), the British capital's FTSE 100 index of leading shares was down 5.24 per cent at 4,168.74 points. -- AFP
