Doherty injects drugs on plane
GENEVA (Switzerland) - BRITISH rocker Pete Doherty has been arrested and fined by police in Geneva, Switzerland, after allegedly injecting drugs during a British Airways flight.

A spokesperson for Geneva police declined to confirm the reason for the fine, but sources said he was found slumped in a plane toilet with a needle stuck in his arm during a flight from London to Geneva on the weekend.

Cabin crew reportedly spent 25 minutes trying to get Doherty to unlock the toilet door, and when he did onlookers claim the star was dazed and "obviously intoxicated".

"They eventually managed to get in 10 minutes before the plane landed," one passenger told Britain's Daily Star. "Pete was taken back to his seat and he looked completely out of it. One of the crew took the needle out of the toilet wrapped in a tissue."

Upon arrival in Geneva, Doherty was taken into police custody, where he was allegedly charged with drug consumption and ordered to pay a fine.

"We were contacted by the captain of a BA flight and a passenger was controlled by police," a police spokesperson said. "He was charged - but I cannot say what with. He paid a fine and was allowed to go."

The 30-year-old musician was later allowed to play his scheduled concert at the Neuchatel Open Air music festival.

Doherty's record label declined to comment on the incident. The Babyshambles singer has battled crack cocaine and heroin addiction but claims he has been "clean as a whistle" since he left rehab earlier this year.

The singer, once a tabloid newspaper favorite for his relationship with British supermodel Kate Moss, was jailed last year for breaching the terms of his probation.

But he has remained out of the headlines since then, except during the launch of his debut solo album Peter Doherty: Grace/Wastelands in March. -- REUTERS
