Sexier Peony Pavilion
| A YOUNGER, shorter and sexier version of the classic Chinese opera The Peony Pavilion is coming to the Esplanade this weekend.
In its original form, the 16th-century epic about unrequited love ran to 55 scenes and 20 hours. The version put on by the famous Suzhou Kun Opera Theatre, called The Young Lovers' Edition, is nine hours long and will play over three nights at the Esplanade Theatre starting May 8. Both leads are 31, young by Chinese opera standards. There is also a contemporary touch in its set and costume designs. Read the full report in Wednesday's edition of The Straits Times' LIFE!. | |
