Party on the cheap

PARTY animals can forget recession woes this season. Nightspots are already warming up to battle for a bigger slice of the party pie with a slew of cheap deals.

Nightlife chain St James Power Station, for example, has already spread the festive cheer with a pre-Christmas party complete with balloons at all 12 outlets, including Bar None, Living Room and The Bellini Grande, in November.

It is also giving party goers more bang for their buck with a one-cover-charge entry, from $15 to $35 a person for men and women on weekdays and weekends, at all three of its clubs, St James Power Station, Bar None and The Bellini Grande.

That means you can club hop at these places on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve for just $35 a person, saving more than $50.

St James' marketing and communications manager Cheryl Khong, 30, tells Life!: 'The one-cover entry is at no cost for the club but this will help party goers stretch their dollar clubbing at three different locations.'

St James is not the only club moving early to combat a potential slowdown as economic sentiments dampen party spirits.

Another big player LifeBrandz, which runs Lunar and Rebel clubs at Clarke Quay, has responded by lowering a housepour drink to $10 to $12, from the minimum of $14, when it opened Zirca at the former premises of the Ministry of Sound dance club, in November.

A bottle of G.H Mumm champagne is now priced at $88 compared to over $100 two months ago.
