Scott lies low
RIDLEY Scott does not really want to talk about his film.

Yes, that one starring a goateed Leonardo DiCaprio in yet another gritty tortured secret agent act, opposite a fat-padded, slick and irritatingly American CIA boss Russell Crowe.

'Yes, yes. The second re-invention of Russell, after A Good Year. Well, to be honest, I just wanted to work with him. As I wanted to work with Leonardo,' is about all Scott will say for now.

Body Of Lies is his latest directorial effort about terrorism and agents in the Middle East. But the British master raconteur really wants to talk about other things. Clearly, he is in a good mood.

We are sitting in a suite at London's Soho Hotel, 20 bottles of expensive orange juice sitting on a stylish sideboard, facing a china tea set balanced on a low-lying table. He drinks from a tumbler of mineral water poured from a glass bottle that looks like it should be holding gin instead. Life is civilised and swish.

'You're from Singapore?' he does not so much ask as state. 'My brother was in Singapore. Working for the navy. An engineer. Never been there myself. But I've been around. Here and there.'

He sports a full crop of grey-blond hair cresting in waves rising from a gently hulking frame. Lounging on the sofa in a loose merino jumper, he has perfected the old boys' club image to a hilt, speaking to no one in particular with a knowing smile in short, throwaway sentences.
