After a month in theatres, it has earned $4.05 million, placing it third among the top three highest-earning local films ever.

This is in contrast to the poor performance of the highly-anticipated 12 Lotus.

After two weeks, writer-director Royston Tan's tale of a tragic getai songstress has brought in $773,000 in ticket sales, compared to the $1.25 million his last getai musical, 881, earned over the same period.

The $1.5-million Money No Enough 2 opened July 31 with 59 prints, the largest roll-out for a local film. The Tay Teck Lock-directed original cost $800,000 and earned $5.8 million, still a record for local films.

The second highest-grossing Singapore film is another Jack Neo film, I Not Stupid Too (2006, $4.1 million).

Mr Daniel Yun, managing director of MediaCorp Raintree Pictures and producer for Money No Enough 2, says the 'Jack Neo magic' seems to be behind the strong showing.
