Quake hits off Japanese coast
TOKYO - A 4.9-MAGNITUDE earthquake struck off the coast of northern Japan on Tuesday, the country's meteorological agency said.

There was no risk of a tsunami, the agency said, and there were no immediate reports of any damage.

The tremor struck at 8.53pm (7am Singapore time), with the epicentre in the Pacific Ocean off Fukushima prefecture, the agency said.

The quake struck about 10 kilometres below sea level, according to the agency.
