'In his letter, Kasab says he is a Pakistani national and that he wants to meet the Pakistan high commissioner' (ambassador) in India, the Press Trust of India reported.

Foreign ministry officials were not immediately available for comment but the official news agency said the letter was given to Pakistan's acting High Commissioner Afrasiab, who like many Asians uses only one name.

A ministry official who did not want to be named said a photocopy of Iman's original letter had been handed over.

Iman is currently being questioned by the police in Mumbai about last month's attacks, which killed 172 people, including nine gunmen, and provoked worldwide outrage. -- AFP
