Punggol East by-election: Workers' Party wins, say sources

Sources say the Worker's Party has won the Punggol East by-election.

A WP source told The Straits Times at about 10.25pm: "Confirmed, WP wins."

Sources say that at six polling stations, WP was ahead by 1,500 votes. If confirmed, this is beyond the 2 per cent margin needed for a recount.

There are 31,469 registered voters in the ward.

After the polls closed at 8pm, ballot boxes from the 10 polling centres were brought to North Vista Secondary School and the other counting centre, Rivervale Primary School. Returning office Yam Ah Mee will make the official announcement at North Vista.
