SINGAPORE - The People's Action Party (PAP) team for Chua Chu Kang Group Representative Constituency (GRC) will consist of Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Ms Low Yen Ling and new face Yee Chia Hsing.

Two-term MP and lawyer Alvin Yeo will retire from politics, announced the GRC's anchor minister Mr Gan at the PAP's Nanyang branch in Jurong West on Sunday (Aug 16).

Chua Chu Kang will be downsized from a five- to a four-member GRC for the coming election.

Replacing Mr Yeo in the Nanyang division of the GRC is the 44-year-old Mr Yee, a Bukit Timah resident who has 20 years' experience in the finance industry.

"I can bring different perspectives as someone who is from the private sector," said Mr Yee, who started volunteering with the PAP in 2011. "I know SMEs are very concerned about the economy slowing down. When I talk to taxi drivers, they also say their takings have even affected."

On what Mr Yee, the current head of catalist at CIMB Bank Singapore, adds to the team, Mr Gan said: "He understands challenges faced by SMEs and many Chua Chu Kang residents are from SMEs.

"In the new team, Mr Yee will focus on looking at inter-personal relationships of residents and reaching out to vulnerable groups and voluntary organisations in the GRC."

Mr Zaqy, a two-term backbencher, and Ms Low, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Social and Family Development, will continue in their current wards. The GRC's current fifth MP, Mr Alex Yam, is expected to move to the newly-formed Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.
