Worried about childcare arrangements for her firstborn son, project engineer Lim M.H., then aged 30, had no qualms about stopping work to care for him full time.
"Traditionally, I felt I should be the one to quit my job instead of my husband, as he is the head of the family," she recalled. It made sense, she added, since he was taking a part-time degree, which would make his job prospects better.
