Halimah Yacob to be re-nominated as Speaker of Parliament

SINGAPORE - Madam Halimah Yacob will be re-nominated as Speaker of Parliament when Parliament convenes in January, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Monday (Sept 28).

The PMO statement also said that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has decided on the following appointments and the ministers will take on their new roles from Oct 1:

- Leader of the House: Ms Grace Fu, who takes over from Dr Ng Eng Hen. She will also be the new Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY).

- Deputy Leader of the House: Mr Desmond Lee, who takes over from Mr Heng Chee How. Mr Lee will be Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, as well as National Development.

- Government Whip: Mr Chan Chun Sing, who takes over from Mr Gan Kim Yong. Mr Chan, who is secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress, continues to be Minister in the PMO.

- Deputy Whip: Ms Sim Ann and Mr Sam Tan will replace Dr Teo Ho Pin and Dr Amy Khor. Ms Sim will be the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and MCCY; Mr Tan will be Minister of State for Manpower and continue to be Minister of State in the PMO.
