NEW YORK (AFP) - Chelsea Clinton announced Friday that she was stepping down from a part-time reporting job on US television to focus on charity work as she prepares to give birth to her first child.

The former first daughter, 34, frequently tipped to follow her parents into politics, said she was leaving her position as NBC Special Correspondent in a message posted on Facebook and Twitter.

She also left the door open to future collaboration.

"While my role with NBC News may be coming to an end, I look forward to working with the NBC family well into the future," she wrote.
