Texting while driving in Singapore may earn you a fine, but a video that has gone viral shows consequences that may convince you that that SMS or Whatsapp message is just not worth it.

The video shows the devastating result of a car crash Liz Marks, 20, got into because she texted while driving. The accident left the American blind in one eye, unable to taste and partially deaf, British website Metro reported.

Ms Marks does not cry in the video, and she cannot, because both her tear ducts are damaged. She also cannot sleep without medicine.

The Daily Mail Online reported that when Ms Marks was 17, she got into an accident with a tow truck while driving her Mazda 3 in Maryland in the United States. She was reading a text from her mother.

"The worst part about my life after the accident was the fact that I was alone," she said in the video.

Her mother, Betty, spoke about how lonely Ms Marks has become, asking friends on Facebook whether they would hang out with her. These were the very friends Ms Marks said in the video that she could not bear being disconnected from.

The original video that was uploaded on YouTube by Betty in April this year has garnered more than 3 million views.

After her painful experience, Ms Marks has one simple advice for others: "If you get a text, don't look at it. It's not worth it."
