PM Lee, ESM Goh to have wax figures at Madame Tussaud's Singapore

Visitors to the new Madame Tussauds Singapore can look forward to taking selfies with the wax figures of local celebrities - as well as the lookalikes of political leaders including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

PM Lee, who toured the museum which will officially open on Oct 25 at the Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa, took a selfie with his wax figure and posted it on his Facebook late Tuesday night.

"Did a selfie with my wax figure (left) at Madame Tussauds Singapore today," he wrote. "Glad that Singapore will now host this famed wax museum."

Briton found dead with throat slashed in Bali: Police

The body of a British man, 60-year-old Robert Kelvin Ellis, was found Tuesday tied up in a ditch with his throat slashed between the tourist areas of Ubud and Kuta on the Indonesian resort island of Bali, police said.

"The body was covered with plastic and bed quilts," said detective Wisnu Wardana. "His body and hands were tied and there was a wound on the victim's neck. The neck was almost completely cut."

Police said Ellis had been living at a villa in the tourist area of Sanur for some years and his Indonesian wife had earlier reported him missing.

US arms airdrop falls into ISIS hands near Kobane: Monitor

A US military airdrop of weapons meant for Kurdish fighters fell into the hands of their extremist foes near the Syrian battleground town of Kobane, a monitor said on Tuesday.

The US Air Force parachuted crates of weapons, ammunition and medical supplies on Sunday night to resupply Kurds defending the Syrian town of Kobane from ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) militants.

Some sources said two consignments had landed in the hands of ISIS, but others said that warplanes from a US-led coalition destroyed one of them once the error was detected.

White House confirms US citizen released from North Korea

North Korea has freed one of three Americans detained in the isolated country, surprisingly allowing a Pentagon plane to land there on Tuesday before whisking him away.

The White House confirmed that American tourist Jeffrey Fowle, 56, had been released from North Korea, had departed the country and was on his way home to his family in Ohio.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Fowle that the United States welcomed the move but remained focused on getting two other US citizens released as well.

Italy's singing nun, Sister Cristina, covers Madonna's Like A Virgin for her first single

After stunning judges and viewers of Italy's version of The Voice on national television in June, Sister Cristina Scuccia is raising eyebrows once again with the song she has chosen to release for her first single, complete with video.

The singing nun delivers an almost hymn-like cover of one of the most notorious songs from Madonna (No, not that Madonna; the pop star) - Like A Virgin.

Variety.com and other entertainment websites reported that Sister Crussina, 26, told the Italian Catholic daily Avvenire that she chose the song "with no intention to provoke or scandalise".But coming ahead of the release of her forthcoming first album, music-watchers are already saying the move is calculated one that's to ignite massive sales of the nun's album when it is released on Nov 11.
